The business schools of the country recently saw a setback when it came to placing their students. While IIMs did not have to tread this road, many other B-schools did have to do it. There were dearth of jobs, and many students did not know what would follow next.
This year IIMs saw a surge of e-commerce sites to line up in front during their campus recruitment. However this time, not only IIMs, these sites have beeline in front of other B-schools as well. This new trend is certainly a win-win situation for both the sites as they hire fresh graduates from the B-schools, and also for the management schools for they can place their students in good companies.
There was an apprehension of the finance and investment sector getting all saturated and it will be difficult to place the students. With the e-commerce companies opening up gates things have definitely got better.
The e-commerce sites plans to spread their wings further with a number of professional managers. They are also offering posts to students who have specialised in warehouse, support chain management, logistics, analytics, and online marketing of products.
IIM-Kozikhode affirmed that there were sites like Amazon, ebay, Flipkart and Yebhi.com who have come for campus recruitment for the first time. Among the other recruiters of IIMs across the country were SnapDeal, Naaptol, Lenskart. The Director of Category and Business of eBay, Mr Kashyap Vadapalli thinks that without a brand value, start ups find it difficult to recruit people. He adds: ‘This makes them go to IIMs. eBay has built a brand over the years.’
Mr Surjeet Kumar, President-Operations, Flipkart said: ‘We have been hiring from IIMs for the past few years, The response has been extremely positive. Talent from these colleges have an extra edge.’
